Job Overview Are you a dynamic and experienced leader in diagnostic imaging? The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks an Imaging General Manager to lead and shape the future of Radiology services. This pivotal role supports the Clinical and Diagnostic Board and involves strategic development, workforce development, and service delivery improvements.
Main duties
- The Imaging General Manager is responsible for the leadership and professional management of non-medical imaging staff within Radiology (excluding Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine).
- Lead on workforce planning, service transformation, strategic development, budgets, and compliance with regulations (e.g., DMO1, IRR 2017, IRMER 2017).
- Shape policies, improve patient pathways, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and staff engagement. Travel between Trust premises may be required.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered where feasible for the service and the patient needs.
Our sites include: Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Health Innovation Neighbourhood, Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Northern Genetics Service, and Cramlington Manor Walks, with offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and other community sites.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- The Imaging General Manager will be managerially and professionally responsible for the leadership and clinical effectiveness of all non-medical imaging staff within Radiology (excluding Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine).
- Will be an integral member of the Radiology senior management team and work closely with the Associate Director of Operations and Director of Operations of the Clinical and Diagnostic Board.
- Provide effective clinical leadership in conjunction with Specialty Leads, supported with business and operational matters by the Associate Director of Operations for Radiology.
- Develop and deliver clinical and professional standards, ensure safe and high-quality care, and modernise the workforce and diagnostic imaging.
- Lead workforce planning, drive service improvement, support business planning, and maximise service opportunities in line with objectives, quality standards, and resource controls.
- Inspire and motivate staff to high performance, promote a culture of engagement, and facilitate innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements (e.g., Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations 2017) and manage R&D opportunities within the service.
- May require travel between Trust premises and may work at any Trust site; reasonable adjustments can be made for disabled applicants.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
- BSc Radiography or equivalent with postgraduate study and management or clinical experience to masters degree level or equivalent
- HCPC Registration
- Specialty-specific knowledge and experience
Desirable
- Professional qualification in management/leadership
Knowledge & Experience
- Successful track record as a manager within an NHS organisation
- Knowledge of managing acute and community health care services
- Operational, people and financial management experience; change management experience
- Budgetary and staff management experience; continuing professional development
- Understanding of health service issues and performance targets
Skills & Abilities
