Purpose
Work in tandem with guidance from the department Manager and more expert engineers acting as mentors. Incumbent will analyze, plan, and propose mitigation measures for Liberty Utility's distribution system. Perform load flow studies for new loads & distribution energy resources and review system configuration for optimal value associated with asset replacements for reliable operation of distribution systems. Assist in coordinating and compiling project scopes, cost estimates, and cost benefit analysis.
Accountabilities
Analyze and plan for efficient distribution additions, reinforcements and interconnections to provide an adequate, reliable and safe electrical system. Knowledge of electrical power systems, including but not limited to; power flow, stability (transient and dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, arc flash, under-frequency load shedding, circuit and system dynamics, shunt capacitors, equipment ratings, power factor analysis, and other related studies.
Assimilate and submit data as required to the various state public service commissions for inclusion in reports, computer simulation studies and/or other needs.
Develop and maintain computer databases as required for load flow, short circuit and other system planning studies.
Work in conjunction with Liberty's transmission planning to mitigate system impacts resulting from new distribution loads, energy resources or configuration modifications.
Investigate, analyze and propose mitigation techniques for power quality problems occurring on Empire's system and at customer's facilities.
Assist in coordinating and compiling cost estimates for distribution projects which will be included in the construction budget.
Provide technical and procedural leadership, coordination, and facilitation with internal and external partners by analyzing system impacts of proposed additions, changes, and/or removals of infrastructure needed to serve load.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within 12 months preferred.
Have working knowledge of CYMEDIST (desirable).
Solid written and verbal communication skills.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Willing to travel once trained, up to (15% with some overnights).
